Mets Vs. Padres Final Score: Matt Harvey Struggles, New York Loses, 7-3

The New York Mets were defeated by the San Diego Padres, 7-3, on Sunday at Petco Park. The Mets won just one game out of the three-game set.

The Mets fell behind early and could not make a comeback against the Padres. Chase Headley hit a two-run shot in the first inning. Carlos Quentin's RBI double in the third inning pushed the San Diego lead to 3-0. Yonder Alonso hit a two-run home run in the inning to make the lead 5-0. Ronny Cedeno hit a two-run home run in the sixth for the Mets. Jason Bay hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to cut the Padres' lead to two. Quentin hit a solo shot in the seventh inning and Mark Kotsay hit an RBI double in the eighth inning to give the Padres insurance runs.

Matt Harvey went five innings in the loss for the Mets. Harvey gave up eight hits (two homers) and five earned runs in the loss. Ramon Ramirez earned the other two runs for the Mets while giving up three hits in 1 1/3 innings. Jason Marquis went six and 1/3 innings for San Diego and gave up four hits and three earned runs.

The Mets (53-56) finished their West Coast trip, 6-5. New York will begin their next series on Aug. 7 at Citi Field against the Miami Marlins (49-60).
