Men's Fencing Team Foil Results: Team USA Fails To Medal After Dramatic Quarterfinal Victory

The men's fencing team foil competition at the 2012 London Olympics finalized Sunday, and Team USA disappointingly finished out of medal contention. USA placed fourth behind the gold-medal winning team, Italy, silver-medalist Japan and bronze-medalist Germany. Italy defeated Japan in the gold medal match, 45-39.

For USA, their day began with a dramatic come-from-behind victory (45-39) over France, which at one point led 20-5. However, Team USA couldn't ride the momentum and lost in the semifinals to Italy, 45-24, and also in the bronze-medal match against Germany.

In its semifinal match against Italy, USA failed to win any of its nine bouts. Its best showing came from Brooklyn, NY, native Race Imboden who had his bout tied at 5-5.

Meanwhile, in the bronze medal match the Americans were not very competitive losing 45-24.

Team USA also featured New York, NY, native Miles Chamley-Watson.
