U.S. Open 2012 Tennis Scores: Venus Williams Knocked Out By Angelique Kerber

Day 4 of the 2012 U.S. Open ended late Thursday evening with American Venus Williams being bounced out in the second round by Angelique Kerber. The German advanced with a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 defeat of the two-time U.S. Open champion. Williams battled Kerber on Thursday night, losing serve twice in the second set but coming back to force a third. The match lasted nearly three hours, and Williams committed 60 unforced errors en rome to the loss.

Her sister Serena Williams had little trouble in her match, advancing to the third round with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. Both Serena and Roger Federer, two of the favorites on each side, moved on in straight sets.
