London Olympics Results: New Zealand's Mahe Drysdale Wins Gold In Men's Single Sculls

Mahe Drysdale is taking home a gold medal to New Zealand. As the men's single sculls rowing competition reached its completion in London on Friday, Drysdale outlasted the field by 1.55 seconds to win the race. Ondrej Synek of the Czech Republic and Alan Campbell of Great Britain came away with the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The 6-foot-6 Drysdale was in fourth place after the first 500 meters but would take the lead and never surrender it. He finished with a time of 6:57.82 to win gold. Synek finished with a time of 6:59.37. Campbell, the local favorite bested barely bested Sweden's Lassi Karonen to take home a medal, finishing with a time of 7:03.28.

Karonen finished in fourth at 7:04.04.

Ken Jurkowski of Cornell was had fallen out of medal contention a couple of days ago and did not start on Friday.
