U.S. Open 2012 Tennis Scores: John Isner Struggles In First-Round Victory

American John Isner moved onto the the second round of the 2012 U.S. Open Wednesday, as he earned a tight 6-3, 7-6(7), 5-7, 7-6(11) victory over Belgium's Xavier Malisse in the first-round round of the single-elimination tournament at Flushing Meadows, NY. Isner advances to play Finland's Jarkko Nieminen, who defeated Mikhail Kukushkin, 6-0, 6-2, retired.

Other men to move on to the second round Wednesday were: David Ferrer (def. Kevin Anderson, 6-4, 6-2, 7-6(7)); Janko Tipsarevic (def. Guillaume Rufin, 4-6, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2); Lleyton Hewitt (def. Tobias Kamke, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-4); Brian Baker (def. Jan Hajek, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2); Cedrik-Marcel Stebe (def. Viktor Troicki, 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2); Gilles Muller (def. Mikhail Youzhny, 2-6, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 7-6); Benoit Paire (def. Grigor Dimitrov, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2); Igor Sijsling (def. Daniel Gimeno, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4); Leonardo Mayer (def. Lukasz Kubot, 6-4 6-4, 7-5); Grega Zemlja (def. Ricardo Mello, 7-5, 7-6, 7-5).

Later on tonight, around 8 p.m. ET, No. 3 seed Andy Murray plays his second-round contest against Ivan Dodig.
