Giants Roster Cuts 2012: Joe Martinek, Brandon Bing Of Rutgers Released

Presswire

Joe Martinek and Brandon Bing, both former Rutgers University stars, were among the players cut by the New York Giants Monday as the team reached the 75-man roster limit as required by NFL rules by 4 p.m. ET. Teams must reach the regular-season limit of 53 players on Friday.

Martinek, signed as an undrafted free agent, was working at both halfback and fullback for the Giants. He caught two passes for 21 yards and one touchdown in the preseason, but did not carry the ball. Bing spent part of the 2011 season on the Giants' practice squad.

Here are the remaining moves made by the Giants.

Placed On PUP

Chris Canty (knee) and Travis Beckum (knee). To clarify something quickly, only players who were on PUP at the beginning of training camp and have not practiced at all during preseason are eligible for regular-season PUP.

Canty and Beckum are not eligible to play until after Week 6 of the regular season (October 16). From October 16 up until the day after the ninth regular season weekend (November 6), players on reserve/PUP may begin a 21-day practice period before a decision has to be made whether to activate, terminate, or keep them on the reserve/PUP list.

Placed on IR

Brandon Mosley (ankle).

Contract Terminated

Antwaun Molden

Waived (11 players)

Ryan Purvis (TE), Carlton Powell (DT) Chris Horton (DB), Julian Talley (WR), Brandon Collins (WR), Christian Hopkins (TE), Brandon Bing (CB), Jojo Nicolas (S), Joe Martinek (RB), Joel Reinders (OT), Oren Wilson (DT).

Significantly, the Giants made no moves with defensive tackle Shaun Rogers (blood clot) or cornerback Terrell Thomas (knee).
