The Barclays Leaderboard: Nick Watney Takes The Lead, Tiger Woods At 6-Under

The leaders are now out on the course at Bethpage and American Nick Watney now has sole possession of the lead at the 2012 Barclays. Watney continues his blistering pace on the gettable front nine, carding birdies at three of the first five holes. At 11-under, he's now two shots clear of the field and looking to post another low red number. Watney led the FedEx Cup standings during the 2011 regular season, but he's had a lackluster summer to say the least. He fell out of contention for the Ryder Cup but perhaps a red-hot end to the season could convince Davis Love II to make a late switch.

Two other potential Ryder Cup captain's picks, Rickie Fowler and Brandt Snedeker, are also on the first page of the leaderboard. Snedeker has one of the best putters in the game and the flatstick would be the first reason why he was selected to play at Medinah. Fowler, on the other hand, was widely considered to be the final and 12th choice to fill out the team. After a fast start, Snedeker is now 6-under while Fowler is looking to make a charge on moving day and is at 7-under for the championship.

Tiger Woods, who battled a stiff back on Friday, is likely not playing at 100 percent on Saturday. He's had a roller coaster third round but has now picked up a shot and moved to 6-under with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 6 and 7. Woods is the current FedEx Cup points leader and is in little danger of not making it through to the finals in Atlanta in a month, but a win at Bethpage would certainly cap a successful summer and provide a boost in advance of the Ryder Cup.
