The New York Mets return home to Citi Field Monday night to face the Colorado Rockies hoping to finally turn around a disastrous second half. They are fresh off another terrible road trip, this time a 2-4 trek that saw New York drop two of three to both the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals.
Putting the finishing touches on the losing trip was a 5-2 loss to the Nationals on Sunday. The Mets offense, stagnant of late, had 11 hits, but ended up going 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Those numbers will have to drastically improve for New York to have any hope of having a successful seven-game home stand.
Taking the ball for the Mets and giving the fans something to cheer for is knuckle baller R.A. Dickey. The veteran already has 15 wins and is not only looking to get to 20 wins, but also stay in the CY Young Award race. Dickey's favorite pitch burnt him last time out against the Reds in a 6-1 loss. He was hit hard, giving up five runs over six innings.
Even if Dickey is able to bounce back, it might not matter if their bats don't start to heat up.
Attempting to keep the Mets lumber in a slumber is Rockies right hander Alex White. He has never taken on New York and is coming off a start against the Miami Marlins in which he was only able to last four innings.
