The Associated Press released its preseason top 25 poll Saturday morning, with the University of Southern California claiming the No. 1 spot on the rankings.
Rutgers did not receive any votes in the AP poll but did receive votes in the USA Today Coaches' poll, which has LSU as its top team. The Coaches' poll was taken prior to Tyrann Mathieu's dismissal from the team and might have a different outcome if taken today.
Rutgers finished the 2011 season 9-4 and defeated Iowa State in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. The Scarlet Knights will open the season on September 1 at Tulane.

The Scarlet Knights' biggest test in 2012 will come on September 22, when Rutgers heads to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks, who are ranked No. 10 in the AP top 25 preseason poll.
Louisville is the only Big East school ranked in the AP top 25, and the Cardinals barely made it in -- at No. 25.
