Entering its three-game series against the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees lineup will get a boost but is still missing a big bat. On Friday, second baseman Robinson Cano will make his return to the batting order, however, first baseman Mark Teixeira wont.
The announcement came from Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who explained before Game 1 of the series why Teixeria is still out with a inflammation in his left wrist.
"He’s sore again. It’s something he’s been battling since he hurt it the first time. It got to a point where we’re going to have to give him some time off again. I don’t think that it’s a long-term problem, but we’ve just got to get through this. ... I’ve been managing it. There are a lot of things that go on in there that people don’t always know. There’s constant conversation with a lot of our players how they’re feeling today."
Meanwhile, the stiff neck that has left Cano out of the lineup for the past few days will not keep him out Friday. Cano will hit third in the Yankees lineup.
