The New York Jets have no interest in acquiring recently released wide receiver Chad Johnson, according to Rich Cimini at ESPN New York. Johnson was released by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday after just two weeks on the roster. He was arrested over the weekend on domestic violence charges after allegedly head-butting his wife, Evelyn Lozada.
The Jets could use the depth at wide receiver, but are apparently unwilling to take on the risk of acquiring Johnson. The man formerly known as Ochocinco has had trouble endearing himself to front offices wherever he has played, despite his obvious talent on the field. The Jets did take on Plaxico Burress last season fresh off a two-year jail sentence.
Cimini points out several other free agent options if the Jets are serious about adding another target. Lee Evans, Roy Williams and Greg Camarillo are all viable veteran options who could be acquired relatively cheap at this point.
