U.S. Medal Count: 14 Different New York Area Athletes Take Home Hardware

The United States dominated the final medal count at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, winning 104 medals in total. The New York area played a major role in supplying athletes for Team USA. Native New Yorkers took home 23 medals among 14 representatives. Unsurprisingly, the swimmers were the most decorated. Ryan Lochte, Dana Vollmer and Cullen Jones combined to win 11 medals.
