After overcoming injuries to make her first Olympic team, Julie Culley wasn't able to add a medal to her resume in the women's 5000m Friday.
The 30-year-old from Lebanon, NJ finished a disappointing 14th in the event final. Culley, who was an All-American at Rutgers, struggled on Friday after running a personal best in the qualifying round. She finished Friday's race in 15:28:22 after running 15:05:38 on Tuesday.
Meseret Defar of Ethiopia won the gold medal in the event Friday with a time of 15:04:25. If Culley had been able to equal the personal best time she set on Tuesday, she would have finished fourth in the race, still shy of an Olympic medal.
Although she didn't medal, Culley did well to even make the Olympic team. She was in third place with 400m to go in the Olympic Trial race, but was able to pass the leaders in the final stretch to qualify for the London games.
