Men's 100-Meter Freestyle Final: USA's Cullen Jones Misses Final, Nathan Adrian Wins Gold

The 100-meter freestyle portion of the men's swimming competition at the 2012 London Olympic games finished Wednesday, and Team USA's Nathan Adrain won the gold medal, the first for him at this year's games.

Overall, Adrain finished the race in 47.52 seconds to outrace silver-medalist James Magnussen of Australia (47.52) and Brent Hayden of Canada (47.80). The trio beat out one of the Olympics' superstars in the French's Yannick Agnel, who finished in fourth place with a time of 47.84. Agnel missed out on his second overall medal.

New York, NY native Cullen Jones failed to qualify for the finals, as he finished his semifinal run with the third-slowest time. On Thursday, Jones will get a chance to earn his first individual medal -- he earned a silver in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay -- in the 50m freestyle.
