2012 London Olympics Medal Count: Ryan Lochte Helps U.S. Keep Pace With China In Overall Medals

The U.S. and China are still tied atop the standings of the medal count at the 2012 London Olympics after the medal events finished on Tuesday. Both countries have 23 medals overall.

Canandaigua, N.Y. native Ryan Lochte swam first the U.S.' gold medal performance in the men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay on Tuesday. The medal was the third of the Olympics for Lochte who also has a gold medal in the men's 400-meter individual medley and a silver in the men's 4x100-meter freestyle.

The U.S. also won gold in women's gymnastics, women's 200-meter freestyle (Allison Schmitt) and men's skeet shooting (Vincent Hancock). Michael Phelps won a silver medal in men's 200-meter butterfly. Combined with the gold in the men's 4x200-meter, Phelps set an Olympic record with 19 total medals over the three Olympics he has participated in. The U.S. also won a bronze in the women's 200-meter individual medley (Caitlain Leverenz).
