2012 London Olympics Medal Count: United States Wins Five Medals On Saturday

The 2012 Olympic games in London got off to a hot start on Saturday, as a host of countries won multiple medals in a variety of competitions. An updated medal count is listed below.

Olympic Medal Count

1. China: 4 gold, 0 silver, 2 bronze (6 total)

2. Italy: 2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze (5 total)

3. United States: 1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze (5 total)

(T) 4. Brazil: 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze (3 total)

(T) 4. South Korea: 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze (3 total)

The United States received a gold medal courtesy of Canandaigua, New York native Ryan Lochte, who was the winner of the men's 400 meter individual medley. The bigger news, however, was Michael Phelps and his fourth place finish in the same event.

The U.S. placed in three other swimming competitions and finished with a silver in archery.
