The United States Women's soccer team wasn't taking anything for granted on Saturday.
After a shaky performance against France in which it was trailing 2-0 before scoring four goals to capture victory, the Americans throttled Colombia 3-0 in Glesgow, Scotland to ensure a trip to the quarterfinals.
The showing was dominant in every way, with the high-powered Americans taking control of the play early on and never letting up. Unfortunately, the first half will be remembered for an ugly incident. U.S. star Abby Wambach was struck under her eye by what seemed to be a blatant punch by Colombia's Lady Andrade.
That said, the Americans showed some fight and maturity at the same time against the pesky Colombian team, which is ranked No. 29 in the world. Megan Rapinoe started the scoring in the first half, with Wambach in the 74th minute and Carli Lloyd in the 77th ending the competitive phase of the afternoon.
Before the U.S. finishes group play, it still has a match against North Korea on Tuesday in Manchester.
