Saturday has a full slate of events from the 2012 London Olympics, including action from Team USA in individual and team competition. The Women’s Soccer team is one of the day’s highlights, taking on Columbia. Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings are also in action, competing in the Women’s Beach Volleyball event.
The Women’s Soccer team has a strong New York connection: Heather O’Reilly, Abby Wambach and Tobin Heath are all on the squad. Other local athletes taking part in Saturday’s competition include Nicole Ross and Nzingha Prescod, both competing in the Women’s Fencing Individual Foil Event, Dana Vollmer representing New York in the Women’s 100m Butterfly qualifying heats and Christina McHale in action in Women’s Singles Tennis.
Events that will culminate in a medal being awarded on Saturday are: Swimming (Women’s 4×100m Freestyle, Women’s 400m IM, Men’s 400m IM), Weightlifting (Women’s 48kg/106lb), Shooting (Women’s 10m Air Rifle, Men’s 10m Air Pistol), Judo (Women’s 48kg, Men’s 60kg), Fencing (Women’s Individual Foil), Cycling (Men’s Road Race) and Archery (Men’s Team.)
