The surging New York Yankees, who have pulled away to a six-game lead in the American League East, are once again No. 2 in the weekly MLB Power Rankings from MLB.com. The Texas Rangers, the only team in baseball with a better record than the Yankees, are No. 1.
Here is what MLB.com said about the Yankees:
"The pitching woes are well-documented, but when you can hit like the Yankees can, it'll make up for a banged-up staff for a while. New York got a big win -- and a big pitching performance from Hiroki Kuroda -- on Saturday, then notched another victory on Sunday to improve to 48-30 and take a six-game lead over the second-place Baltimore Orioles. Maybe they aren't in that much trouble after all."
The New York Mets, hanging tough in the National League East at 43-37, just 3.5 games behind the division-leading Washington Nationals, are No. 10 in this week's rankings.
