Former Iona guard Scott Machado will play for the Houston Rockets' summer league team, according to a report from NBC's Pro Basketball Talk.
Machado surprisingly went undrafted in last week's 2012 NBA Draft after leading all of NCAA Division I with 9.9 assists per game as a senior at Iona. The 6-foot-1 point guard added 13.6 points while leading Iona's high-paced offense. He was hurt during the draft process by an inability to stand out in individual workout settings, but still drew plenty of interest after the draft from teams looking to add a playmaker.
Machado will now have to earn his spot in the NBA the hard way, as an undrafted free agent. He should have plenty of opportunities to rack up assists while playing for the Rockets' Summer League team, which is also expected to feature first-round draft choices Jeremy Lamb, Royce White and Terrence Jones.
