Stony Brook Vs. LSU, Game 1: Seawolves Drop Two-Day, 12-Inning Heartbreaker, 5-4

In a game that spanned two days and lasted 12 innings, the Stony Brook Seawolves lost a 5-4 heartbreaker to LSU in the opener of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament Super Regionals in Baton Rouge.

The game was suspended due to rain and lightning with a 4-4 tie in the top of the 12th on Friday and resumed on Saturday morning. LSU did not need much time on Saturday morning, ending things in the bottom of the 12th when Mason Katz hit an RBI single to left.

Stony Brook, a Cinderella story even making it this far, had LSU on the ropes several times in the game. The Seawolves took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 9th inning, a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 10th inning and a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 11th inning. But LSU answered every time.

Stony Brook won't have to wait long to get another crack at the Tigers. Game 2 of their best-of-three series is scheduled to start 50 minutes after Game 1 concluded.
