St. John's Vs. Arizona, Game 1 Final Score: Red Storm Fall, 7-6, In 10 Innings

The St. John's Red Storm were defeated the Arizona Wildcats on Friday at the Tucson Super Regional of the 2012 NCAA College Baseball Tournament at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Ariz.

The teams were scoreless until a big inning by the Red Storm in the fourth inning. Jeremy Baltz started the scoring with an RBI single. Zach Lauricella also got an RBI single as did Bret Dennis. Kyle Richardson had a sacrifice fly. Jimmy Brennan also an RBI single. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Arizona got one run back on a Bobby Brown RBI single. Johnny Field cut the Red Storm lead to 5-2 with an RBI single in the fifth inning. The Wildcats tied the game in the sixth inning with an RBI triple from Trent Gilbert and RBI double from Joey Rickard and a fielding error by Kyle Richardson.

St. John's was able to put a run across in the top of the 10th when Sean O'Hare hit a single down the third base line that brought home Frank Schwindel. Arizona got the run back in the bottom of the tenth on Bobby Brown's RBI single. Then, Trent Gilbert drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single.

Kyle Hansen had the start for St. John's and went 5 2/3 innings. He gave up 7 hits, five runs (four earned) and four walks. Hansen struck out just one batter. Stephen Rivera replaced Hansen and pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings until the 10th. He was replaced by Kevin Kilpatrick who gave up the run on Brown's single. Kilpatrick was replaced by James Lamangino who gave up the game-winning run on Gilbert's single. Arizona's Kurt Heyer went 9 1/3 innings, giving up 17 hits, six runs (all earned) and struck out four batters. Matthew Troupe took over for Heyer and closed out the game for the Wildcats without surrendering a run.
