After Thursday's matches were over at the 2012 French Open, Maria Sharapova found out she would once again become the No. 1 Women's tennis player. Sharapova defeated No. 4 seed Petra Kvitova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, and moved on to her first final at Roland Garros. Sharapova's previous best finish at the event was the semifinals (2007, 2011).

Sara Errani will also be playing in her first French Open final, which will also be her first final in a major tournament.
