The 2012 MLB Draft begins Monday night, and the New York Yankees will have the 30th selection in the first round. The draft begins at 7 p.m. ET, and both Round 1 and Compensation Round A will be televised by MLB Network and streamed live on MLB.com.
In addition to the 30th selection in the first round, the Yankees will have second-round picks that are 89th and 94th overall and a fourth-round pick that will be 124th overall. They do not have a selection in Compensation Round A, so they will make only one selection Monday evening.
The draft will continue Tuesday and Wednesday with 40 rounds being held in all. This draft, incidentally, marks 20 years since the Yankees were able to draft Derek Jeter sixth overall in the 1992 draft. SB Nation's Grant Brisbee makes the case that the Jeter selection is the greatest draft pick of all time.
Yankees fans will hardly disagree. And will hope they find another Jeter in this draft.
