Stony Brook Vs. UCF: Seawolves Trounce Knights, 12-5, Sunday Night

The Stony Brooks Seawolves defeated the UCF Knights, 12-5, on Sunday night during the Regional round of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The win forces another game between the two teams Monday, with the winner advancing to the Super Regional round.

Jasvir Rakkar was given the win after striking out six in six innings of work. He gave up four earned runs off seven hits and three walks. Joshua Mason gave up no hits and no walks while striking out four in three innings to get the save. Knights starter Eric Skoglund was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs off seven hits in 3 1/3 innings.

To be fair, only three of those runs were earned off Skoglund. UCF committed three errors in a three-run second inning for the Seawolves. Travis Jankowski scored on a throwing error by Knights second baseman Travis Shreve to give Stony Brook a 3-0 lead. Jankowski finished the night 3-for-6 from the plate.

Pat Cantwell, William Carmona and Maxx Tissenbaum batted-in consecutive RBIs in a three-run fourth inning. The Seawolves added another three runs in the eighth.
