New Jersey native Christina McHale won her opening round at Wimbledon 2012 and got the good news that she will be part of the U.S. Olympic team in London this summer (via NJ.com).
McHale defeated Johanna Konta, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 10-8, on Tuesday in a match that resumed after it was suspended on Monday evening.
McHale, who is seeded No. 28 in the tournament, will now advance to play unseeded Mathilde Johansson in Round 2. She is playing in her second tournament at Wimbledon. McHale was eliminated in the second round in 2011 in women's singles and the third round in doubles.
McHale will be making her debut in the Olympics in the women's singles alongside U.S. teammates Serena Williams, Varvara Lepchenko and three-time Olympic gold medalist Venus Williams.
