Amare Stoudemire Fined For Using Offensive Gay Slur In Twitter Message

New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire has been fined $50,000 for "using offensive and derogatory language in a Twitter message," the NBA announced on Tuesday.

Stoudemire used a gay slur in a direct message on Twitter to a fan who had tweeted at him that he needed to come back "stronger and quicker" to make up for last season. The fan took a screen shot of Stoudemire's direct message and tweeted it to all his followers. Stoudemire shortly followed with an apology, likewise delivered by direct message, which the fan also posted on Twitter.

"I apologize for what I said earlier. I just got off the plane and had time to think about it. Sorry bro!! No Excuses. Won't happen again," Stoudemire wrote in his apology.
