The 2012 U.S. Open begins Thursday at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, CA. Rory McIlroy set the event's scoring record with a 16-under par week at Congressional last year, but nobody expects the record to fall again this year.
Olympic is just too tough.
The rough is fierce and the greens are small and unforgiving. Bubba Watson said he doesn't like the course largely because he's afraid he might shoot an 80.
SB Nation's Brian Floyd wrote an Olympic Club course tutorial which described the 2012 U.S. Open site as "brutal." He called the opening six holes "a brutal stretch that can quickly derail a round before it truly gets started" while noting that the finishing three holes also feature all sorts of trouble.
