2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: Army Baseball Preview

The road to Omaha begins Friday, as the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament starts at 16 different regional sites which each will feature four teams playing a double-elimination tournament. Now, if you're a college baseball fan there's a lot of action to follow, so SB Nation New York figured to put together some capsules together to help you get acquainted with each of the local programs. Here's a rundown of the Army Black Knights.


NCAA Baseball Tournament StoryStream

Regional: Charlottesville -- Davenport Field, Charlottesville, Va.

Opponents: Virginia (38-17-1), Oklahoma (38-22), Appalachian St. (39-16).

Breakdown: America's finest return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009. The Black Knights will begin play against the top-seeded and regional host, the Virginia Cavaliers, at 4 p.m. ET.

This season, Army collected a school record 41 victories and its sixth Patriot League Championship.

Players to watch: Statistically, senior Kevin McKague was the Black Knights best hitter with a team-high batting average (.389), home run (five) and RBI (44) totals. McKague also compiled the best ERA (1.46) on the pitching staff as he collected five saves in 12 1/3 innings pitched.

Junior Chris Rowley (11-0, 1.97 ERA) was the Black Knights ace for this season making 14 starts and tossing 91 1/3 innings.
