Chelsea, Paris Saint-German To Meet In Yankee Stadium's First Soccer Match

The new Yankee Stadium will host its first soccer match on July 22, the New York Yankees announced on Monday.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-German will face each other at 7 p.m. ET on the above date as part of the World Football Challenge, a soccer tour making its way through North America from July 18-Aug. 11.

Tickets for the event will go on sale beginning on May 16. Once reconfigured for soccer, Yankee Stadium will seat 54,000 spectators.

The two clubs are both highly respected franchises. Chelsea, of the English Premier League, recently championed England's FA Cup and is set to play in the UEFA Champions League Final on May 19. Paris Saint-Germain, a member of France's top league, has won the league title twice, the French Cup eight times and France's Champion Trophy twice.

Chelsea is also scheduled to play the Seattle Sounders and MLS All-Stars, among other teams, as part of an American tour.
