On the Men's side of the draw on Monday at the 2012 French Open, upsets were not in the offing. No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic and No. 3 seed Roger Federer both won in straight sets. The only seed to fall on Monday was No. 15 seed Feliciano Lopez, who withdrew from his match down 0-5 against Florent Serra with an injury.
Djokovic defeated Potito Starace, 7-6, 6-3, 6-1 and Federer beat Tobias Kamke 6-2, 7-5, 6-3.
On the Women's side of the draw, No. 1 seed Victoria Azarenka defeated Alberta Brianti, 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-2. While the top seed advanced, No. 12 Sabine Lisicki, No. 17 Roberta Vinci, No. 30 Mona Barthel and No. 32 Monica Niculescu all lost.
New Jersey native Christina McHale defeated Kiki Bertens 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
