French Open Results 2012, Round 1: Andy Roddick Upset, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga And Venus Williams Advance

On Sunday at the 2012 French Open, Andy Roddick lost in what was the only upset of the day. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Venus Williams however, both advanced.

Roddick lost to Nicolas Mahut, 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Tsonga defeated qualifier Andrey Kuznetsov 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

Williams defeated Paula Ormaechea, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Yonkers, NY native James Blake has not yet played his first round match against No. 27 seed Mikhail Youzhny. Blake struggles on the clay courts of Roland Garros and has not advanced past the third round of the French Open during his career.

On the Women's side, New Jersey native Christina McHale will play her first round opponent, Kiki Bertens, on May 28.
