The Virginia Cavaliers defeated the Princeton Tigers, 6-5, on Sunday in the first round of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Cavaliers got half of their offense in the first quarter with three goals. Virginia scored the first two goals of the game before giving up a goal to Princeton with 3:55 left play. The Cavaliers regained their two goal lead with 10 seconds to play. Virginia got some breathing room after a 2-1 second quarter that had them up 5-2 with two quarters to play. A 2-0 third quarter by the Tigers sliced Virginia's lead back to one. Chris Bocklet scored the eventual game winner with 7:47 left to play. Princeton scored their fifth goal with 1:19 left to play but couldn't tie the game before the clock ran out.
Bocklet and Colin Briggs led Virginia with two goals apiece. Tom Schreiber had two goals and two assists for the Tigers.
Virginia will move on to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the second round of the tournament on May 20.
