2012 Preakness: Dullahan And Trinniberg Leave Race, To Be Replaced By Teeth of the Dog, Zetterholm

Via Daily Racing Forum comes the news that Dullahan and Trinniberg will skip the 2012 Preakness, instead focusing their efforts on the Belmont Stakes. They join former Kentucky Derby favorite Union Rags, who according to ESPN will skip the Preakness. Dullahan took third place in the Kentucky Derby, and Trinniberg was heavily involved in the race. Dale Romans, Dullahan's trainer, believes the horse is in fine condition to run the race, but ultimately owner Jerry Crawford made the opposite call.

“Dale Romans loves the way Dullahan came out of the Kentucky Derby and believes we could win the Preakness,” Crawford said. “But we believe we have a 3-year-old ‘Horse of the Year’ candidate and that his future is best served by not asking him to race for the third time in just five weeks in the Preakness.”

The Preakness was already shaping up for a strong focus on a rematch between Bodemeister and I'll Have Another, and the absence of Dullahan and Trinniberg just makes that more so.
