Bodemeister is currently a 9-2 co-favorite (along with Union Rags) as Saturday's 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of horse racing's Triple Crown, approaches.
Bodemeister has only two career starts, a second place in the San Felipe at Santa Anita Park (Creative Cause was the winner) and a victory April 14 in the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park. Bodemeister won that race in a wire-to-wire effort by 91/2 lengths over Secret Circle.
The colt is owned by Zayat Stables and trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert. The colt did not race as a two-year-old. Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith will be aboard Bodemeister in Saturday's Derby.
The final leg of the Triple Crown is, of course, the Belmont Stakes, held at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y.
