Frozen Four 2012, Union College Vs. Ferris State Final Score: Dutchmen Fall, 3-1

The Union College Dutchmen lost, 3-1, in the 2012 Frozen Four to the Ferris State Bulldogs on Thursday from the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa, Florida.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the second period, Union lost the lead by giving up a power-play goal later in the period. There were not many chances to be had in the third period until Union goalie Troy Grosenick gave up a big rebound. No defenders got in between the puck and the goal, and Kyle Bonis slammed in the rebound to give Ferris State the 2-1 lead. The goal was the second rebound tally for Bonis in the game. Union's last good chance in the game with under three minutes left hit the crossbar after a deflection.

Union pulled the goalie with a little more than a minute remaining. A bad handle at the point led to an empty net breakaway goal for Aaron Schmit.

Daniel Carr scored the only goal for Union. Grosenick made 34 saves for Union in the losing effort. Taylor Nelson made 27 saves for Ferris State.

The Dutchmen finish the season at 26-8-7. They defeated Harvard in the ECAC Championship. Union then defeated Michigan State and UMass-Lowell to make it to the Frozen Four. Ferris State will advance to the National Championship for the first time in school history on April 7.
