2012 Battle On The Midway: Syracuse Basketball To Play San Diego State On Deck Of USS Midway

The Syracuse Orange will play on an aircraft carrier during the 2012-2013 basketball season (via U-T San Diego).

The Orange will play the San Diego State Aztecs on the flight deck USS Midway Museum at on Nov. 9 in San Diego, Calif. in the Battle on the Midway. Last season, North Carolina and Michigan State met on the USS Carl Vinson in the Carrier Classic. The two events are put on by different producers and the Carrier Classic will not be held this season.

The 67-year old USS Midway became a museum ship permanently docked in San Diego in 2004. Syracuse was chosen after Big East foe Georgetown, which was initially invited, could not get out of a prior scheduling engagement. San Diego State will be joining the Big East in football for 2013 and as part of the deal, got guaranteed basketball games against Big East members. The Battle on the Midway game is not one of those games.
