NFL Draft 2012: New York Giants End 1st Round By Taking David Wilson

With the 32nd pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the New York Giants have selected Virginia Tech running back David Wilson. The pick falls in line with pre-draft expectations, which identified running back as a need for the Giants and also tabbed Wilson as a late-first round prospect. Check out Mocking the Draft's scouting report for more on Wilson.

Wilson was productive in a rotation in his first two seasons before taking over the No. 1 running back spot in his junior season. That was a breakout year for Wilson, who rushed for 1,709 yards and nine touchdowns en route to being named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year. He doesn't have ideal size, but runs with power for a 5-foot-10, 205-pound back.

Impact for the Giants:

Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill was a popular pick at No. 32, but the Giants also had questions at running back Ahmad Bradshaw is still just 26 years old, but he has been increasingly injury-prone over the past several years. D.J. Ware has yet to prove he's anything more than a No. 3 running back, while last year's seventh-round selection Da'Rel Scott is entirely unproven.

Bringing in Wilson obviously increases the Giants' flexibility at running back, but it also adds an element of big-play ability that wasn't seen aside from Bradshaw.
