NFL Draft 2012: Kansas City Chiefs Grab Dontari Poe No. 11

With the 11th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have selected Memphis nose tackle Dontari Poe. This pick mostly confirm the projections for Poe, whom many scouts and evaluators felt was one of the top defensive linemen in the draft.

The junior was the anchor of the Memphis defense last season with his impressive size at 6-foot-4 and 346 pounds. He also wowed scouts at the Scouting Combine with his surprising speed and his overall strength. It remains to be seen if that will translate to the NFL given that much of his domination in college was against Conference USA foes, but if he commits himself to working hard, he could be a great anchor to a 3-4 system.

The Chiefs' next pick comes in the second round, at No. 44 overall.

Impact on Giants and Jets:

Though both teams could select a defensive lineman in the first round, Poe wasn't expected to be on the board for either. Indeed, Poe nearly cracked the top 10.
