2012 NFL Draft: Robert Griffin III Selected No. 2 By Washington Redskins

For the second consecutive pick, the 2012 NFL Draft opens without a surprise.

The Washington Redskins selected Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 overall pick, which they obtained by trading their second-round pick this year and two first-rounders over the next two years.

Griffin won the Heisman Trophy this past season, throwing for 4,293 yards with 37 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. Perhaps even more impressively, he completed 72.4 percent of his passes. His accuracy and his arm strength would be solid enough reasons to draft him high, but his agility and his athleticism allow him to stretch out plays and possibly make him a can't-miss prospect.

Impact on the Jets and Giants:

None for the Jets, but the Giants' NFC East rivals are now significantly better off on offense. The Redskins still have more upgrading to do before they can be considered legitimate contenders in the division, let alone the conference, but the excitement RGIII will bring to Washington cannot be understated.
