'Morning Coffee,' Good News, Bad News Edition

Tuesday night was a mixed bag for New York's baseball teams. A win, a loss -- and some pain. Let's examine more closely in today's 'Morning Coffee', your sports wake-up call.

Yankees At Rangers: Yu Darvish Dominates In 2-0 Texas Win

Darvish outdueled Hiroki Kuroda in a matchup of Japanese right-handers. Darvish showed he might just be worth the $107 million he is costing the Rangers with 8.1 shutout innings. The Japense phenom was seranaded throughout the night with chants of 'Yuuuuuuu.'

The Yankees also got "disappointing" news Tuesday about pitcher Michael Pineda. At least Derek Jeter continued his early-season rampage.

Mets Vs. Marlins: Jose Reyes Goes 0-for-4 In 2-1 New York Victory

The Mets won -- and they held their former shortstop, Jose Reyes, hitless. That's the good news.

The bad news? They put both outfielder Jason Bay and pitcher Mike Pelfrey on the disabled list. And with Pelfrey headed to see Dr. James Andrews that could turn into really bad news.

Stanley Cup Playoffs

The New York Rangers on Monday forced a Game 7 in their series with the Ottawa Senators. Not to be outdone, the New Jersey Devils followed suit on Tuesday, beating the Florida Panthers, 3-2, in overtime to force a Game 7 in that series.

Basketball

- The New York Knicks host Blake Griffin and the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday. The Knicks have just two regular-season games remaining. [Knicks StoryStream]

- The Nets are done in New Jersey, and even with a game still to play are wasting no time promoting their new home in Brooklyn.

- Metta World Peace earned a seven-game suspension for his violent elbow to the head of Oklahoma City's James Harden. Enough? Too Much? Too Little? Personally, I would have liked to have seen him suspended for whatever remains of the Los Angeles Lakers' season.

Today's Tim Tebow Moment

We haven't had a Tim Tebow moment in a while here at 'Morning Coffee.' Our bad. Today, we fix that. The Jets are apparently planning to use Tebow on their punt team as the personal protector in the backfield. That puts the fake into play, sure, but can Tebow block? Or tackle? And will he 'Tebow' if he makes a tackle? Could be fun to find out.

Quotable

"(The) Giants just won a championship yet I’m still the 3rd most talked about quarterback in my own city." -- New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning
