Good morning New York sports fans! If you're a fan of the New York Rangers, it's an even better morning. The Rangers avoided elimination last night, defeating the Ottawa Senators, 3-2. With the win, New York forced a Game 7 on Thursday night. Derek Stepan collected three points (1g, 2a) as the Rangers struck for all three goals in the second period. Rookie Chris Kreider made an immediate impact, scoring the game-winner.
After the jump, the New Jersey Nets send the fans home with a loss and the New York Yankees bats stay hot in Texas.
The Nets End Jersey Tenure With A Loss
The end has finally come for the New Jersey Nets in the Garden State. Last night, the Nets lost their final game in New Jersey, 105-87, to the Philadelphia 76ers. During the game, former Nets stars Vince Carter and Jason Kidd had video messages for the sold-out crowd. Apparently, Brian Scalabrine also had a video message. Which begs the question - is that really the "star power" the Nets touted during their last decade in New Jersey?
Yanks Bats Beat Holland, Rangers
Two days after scoring 15 runs, the Yanks offense was at it again. New York hung a seven spot on Texas Rangers starter Derek Holland, defeating the Rangers 7-4. The loss snapped a hot streak for the Rangers, who had won nine of their last 10 games. Derek Jeter finished with four hits, and C.C. Sabathia pitched eight innings to earn his second win of the season.
Giants Pound Mets In Doubleheader
So much for the New York Mets hot start this season. The San Francisco Giants swept both games of a doubleheader yesterday, taking two of three against the Mets. The Mets have dropped five of their last seven games.
