'Morning Coffee,' Weekend Edition

Good morning, sports fans! This is your weekend edition of 'Morning Coffee,' your sports wakeup call.

Yankees Embarrass Red Sox

The New York Yankees looked to be on their way to a lopsided defeat Saturday, falling behind the Boston Red Sox 9-0 through six innings. The Yankees, though, were just setting up Boston for its latest does embarrassment, roaring back over the final three innings for a 15-9 victory.

Ahh, it's great to be a Yankee fan this morning. And it sucks to be a Red Sox fan. Just ask SB Nation Boston, which called the loss the "most embarrassing catastrophe in a long series that started last September."

The Boston blog 'Over The Monster' is wondering if the season is already lost in Beantown. Pinstripe Alley lauded the "absolutely wonderful performance" of the Boston bullpen, which destroyed six shutout innings by starter Felix Doubront.

Just to be thorough, we should mention that the other New York baseball team also played on Saturday. The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants, 5-4, surviving a nutty ninth inning.

NHL Playoffs

The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils are both in heaps of trouble in the opening round of the 2012 NHL Playoffs.

The Rangers, top seed in the Eastern Conference, now face elimination after a 2-0 loss Saturday at Madison Square Garden put them in a 3-2 series deficit.

The Devils lost to the Florida Panthers, 3-0, and once again found themselves serenaded with rubber rats being tossed on the ice by Florida fans. The Devils are also down 3-2 and facing elimination.

2012 NFL Draft

SB Nation New York's Mike Fiammetta tried his hand at a mock draft recently. How well did he do? You will have to judge for yourself.

Be sure to follow all your New York Giants and New York Jets draft news at the SB Nation New York NFL Draft Hub page. You will find mock drafts galore, and a host of other features and draft-related information. A little bonus video below:

Quotable

“If you ask me, who is the best pitcher in the world, I say me. You have to believe that. That’s why you win so many games.”
