Seton Hall Basketball Offseason 2012: Sterling Gibbs Transferring To Seton Hall From Texas

The Seton Hall Pirates will have a new face next season via transfer (North Jersey). Former Texas guard Sterling Gibbs (brother of Pittsburgh Panthers' guard Ashton Gibbs) is transferring to Seton Hall with three years of eligibility remaining.

Gibbs (6-1, 185) played in a reserve capacity for the Longhorns and averaged 2.6 points and 0.6 assists in 7.6 minutes per game last season. Gibbs will seek a hardship waiver which would give him immediate eligibility next season.

Gibbs said about his transfer

"I've had a great year at Texas," Gibbs said in a statement released by the university. "I've improved as a basketball player and as a person during my time here. If my decision had to do with basketball only, I would not be leaving Texas. But my decision is family-related and involves more than basketball."

Gibbs is from New Jersey and attended Seton Hall Prep in high school. Jamar Nutter (2004-2008) was the last player to attend Seton Hall Prep to play for the Pirates. If Gibbs can play right away he would help to fill the void created by the departure of Jordan Theodore, who was a senior this past season.
