Using seven 3-pointers and a 15-2 run, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights have taken a 34-30 halftime lead over the Villanova Wildcats in a first-round game of the 2012 Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden. Freshman guard Eli Carter has netted a game-best 15 points, including three 3-pointers, for Rutgers which has gone 7-for-11 from behind the 3-point arc.
Junior guard Maalik Wayns has tallied a team-best nine points for the Wildcats, who's shooting 41-percent from the floor. Junior forward Mouphtaou Yarou and sophomore guard James Bell have each netted six points.
Junior guard Dane Miller and freshman guard Myles Mack both scored six points for the Scarlet Knights.
The winner advances to Wednesday's second round where it will play the No. 6-seeded South Florida Bulls (9 p.m. ET on ESPN). Click here for a look at the bracket.
