Another ticket to the NCAA Tournament will be punched today as the MAAC championship game gets underway with Fairfield and Loyola tonight.
Fairfield (19-13, 12-6) is coming off of a stunning victory over top-seeded Iona on Sunday, 85-75. The Stags got a virtuoso performance from Rakim Sanders who scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Fairfield won because of its dominance on the glass, out-rebounding the Gael, 32-17.
On the other side, Loyola (23-8, 13-5) comes in after beating Siena, 70-60, yesterday. The Greyhounds were paced by Erik Etherly who poured in 21 points to accompany six rebounds.
In the two previous meetings between Loyola and Fairfield, each team found a way to win once. On Feb. 12, the Stags pounded the Greyhounds 78-61 but lost to them back on Jan. 13, 66-63.
It's all on the line tonight for two teams who face either the end of their season or the elation of joining the March Madness that will ensue next Thursday.
Game Time: 7 p.m. ET
