Northeast Conference Basketball Tournament 2012: Long Island And Robert Morris To Tip Off In Wednesday's Championship Game

The Northeast Conference Championship Game is officially set, with Long Island defeating Quinnipiac, and Robert Morris upsetting Wagner in the semifinals on Sunday to set up Wednesday's title bout.

Long Island went 16-2 in the NEC during the regular season to earn the conference's top seed. They haven't disappointed yet, dispatching 8-seed Sacred Heart before taking out the Bobcats 78-75 in the semis. Julian Boyd scored 21 points during the game, and the Blackbirds scored their final five points on free throws to hold off Quinnipiac after the Bobcats led by eight points at one point in the second half.

Robert Morris took out higher-seeded Wagner 71-64, avenging their loss to the Seahawks in the only meeting between the two teams this season early in February. Velton Jones led the way with 25 points, and the Colonials held a 39-23 rebounding advantage for the game. The contest featured 40 free throw attempts apiece for the two teams.

Wednesday's championship game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Robert Morris will be going for its league-best eight NEC Tournament title.
