The Ferris State men's ice hockey team advanced in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night, upsetting Cornell 2-1 behind a third period strike from Jordie Johnston.
The two teams tussled through 40 plus minutes of scoreless hockey before Garrett Thomspon of Ferris State opened the scoring just 11 seconds into the third period on a power play tally.
The Big Red evened the tilt just over a minute later, as Dustin Mawrey slammed home an even strength score to knot the game at one.
But Johnston's goal at 6:54 would prove to be the difference, and goalie Taylor Nelson was sharp for the Bulldogs, stopping 22 of the 23 shots that he faced.
The win pushes Ferris State on to the Frozen Four, where they'll face off against Union on April 5 in Tampa Bay.
