NCAA Hockey Bracket 2012, Cornell Vs. Michigan: Big Red Advances After 3-2 Overtime Win

The Cornell Big Red defeated the No. 2 seeded Michigan Wolverines on Friday night in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Hockey tournament by a score of 3-2 in overtime. The Big Red will now advance to the second-round quarterfinals where they'll face Ferris State University.

The Big Red headed into the third period with a 2-1 lead over the Wolverines. They looked like they were going to hold on for a 2-1 win, but with four minutes remaining in regulation, the Wolverines tied the game at two goals a piece after a Kevin Lynch score (assists by Luke Moffatt and Mac Bennett). Neither team was able to score for the rest of the third period, forcing the two teams to go to overtime.

Seven minutes into the fourth period, the game was ended by Cornell's Rodger Craig's overtime goal (assists by Greg Miller and Dustin Mowrey). Cornell was able to hold on for the win despite the fact that Michigan out-shot them 33-24. Their second-round game against Ferris State will begin on Saturday, March 24 at 9 p.m. ET.
