The Manhattan Jaspers fell, 69-57, to the Fairfield Stags on Sunday at Alumni Hall in Fairfield, Conn. in the Second Round of the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
Manhattan kept it close until the final seven minutes of the game. Both teams were cold from behind the arc, shooting a combined 3-19. The Jaspers' 19 turnovers ultimately doomed them. The extra possessions for the Stags made up for their poor performance from the free throw line (5-13). The turnovers also meant that Manhattan couldn't get the score close enough to take advantage of Fairfield's free throw woes.
The Jaspers were led by 16 points by George Beamon and a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds) from Emmy Andujar. Maurice Barrow led the Stags in scoring with 18 points. Keith Matthews chipped in 15 points for Fairfield.
Manhattan finished the season at 21-13 (12-6 MAAC). Manhattan and Fairfield were tied for third place at the end of the MAAC regular season. After a quarterfinal exit in the MAAC Tournament, the Jaspers defeated Albany in the First Round of the CIT before falling to the Stags.
Fairfield will move on to the CIT quarterfinals to meet Robert Morris on March 21.
